KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In an effort to expedite emergency response times, Jackson County leaders are exploring strategies to reduce the wait when residents call 911.

The initiative is primarily funded by a 911 tax reflected on every Jackson County resident's phone bill.

Traditionally, these funds have been dispersed to various departments based on immediate needs.

However, the head of the 911 oversight committee, Jackson County Legislator Sean Smith, suggests a more proactive approach might be more beneficial in the long run.
